Why Does Obama hate Israel?

It may be impossible to peer into President Obama's soul and parse his motivations but his actions and associations speak volumes. President Obama's motivations not withstanding one thing is sure: America's relationship with Israel appears to be dying on the vine under the care of President Obama.

The roots of the problem likely go back to Obama's early formative years. I will leave such an exhaustive investigation to those more equipped to handle it. I will pause here only to point out Obama's association with Reverend Jeremiah Wright Jr. Obama spent years absorbing the fiery, anti-Semitic rants of Wright in the Trinity United Church. Is it possible to hear such things and not be affected? Only President Obama can definitively answer that question but Wright's feelings on Israel and the Jews are clearly articulated in the following quotes"

Rev. Jeremiah Wright

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” (Sep 2001)

“The Israelis have illegally occupied Palestinian territories for over 40 years now. Divestment has now hit the table again as a strategy to wake the business community and wake up Americans concerning the injustice and the racism under which the Palestinians have lived because of Zionism.”

While the internal agenda that drives President Obama remains hidden we can clearly see its manifestation is his actions.

In  The Washington Examiner John Bolton notes:

Consider, for example, Obama's September 2009 U.N. General Assembly speech, profoundly anti-Israeli, and to a body where Israel is perennially even more isolated than the United States. There, among other things, Obama called for a "Palestinian state with contiguous territory that ends the occupation that began in 1967."

That, of course, is the Palestinian position. No wonder they are "outraged" at every subsequent Israeli construction project outside the 1967 borders. No wonder Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas told an Arab League summit on Saturday he would not negotiate with Israel until all settlement activity ceases. They see Obama delivering Israel into their hands, and they will simply insist on their optimal position while they measure how well he succeeds.

The Israel National News published the following:

The United States has begun denying visas to Israel's nuclear scientists, according to the Hebrew-language daily Maariv. Workers at the reactor in Dimona told the paper that they had been treated poorly by US representatives, and had been told they could not travel to the States.

For the past 20 years it has been common for scientists working at the Dimona reactor to travel to universities in the U.S. to enhance their knowledge in the fields of physics, chemistry, and nuclear engineering.

The only reason the Dimona scientists' visa requests were refused was their work at the reactor, sources in the military establishment said. None of the researchers has had any trouble with the law, in Israel or America.

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch charged.

U.S. President Barack Obama is anti-Israel and “is willing to throw Israel under the bus in order to please Muslim nations,"

Obama seems content to court Israel's enemies, along with our enemies,  as evidenced in the excerpt below from The Australian:

He was happy in principle to talk to Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, but did not know for sure that the Iranian president wielded real power. But he sent all manner of felicitations and greetings to Iran and its government. When that government stole an election on Ahmadinejad's behalf and viciously brutalised its citizens, Obama refrained from speaking too much or too forcefully, as, he said, he didn't want to be seen to be interfering in Iranian internal affairs.

When Obama met the king of Saudi Arabia, a nation in which no one votes, women are subject to severe and demeaning restrictions and it is against the law to have a Christian church, Obama bowed in deep respect.

When Obama ran into Venezuela's murderous despot, Hugo Chavez, at a summit, there was a friendly greeting observed by all.

But there is one leader whom Obama draws the line at. He will not be seen in public with Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Astonishingly, when Netanyahu saw Obama at the White House this week, all photographers and all TV cameras were banned, a level of humiliation almost completely unique in modern White House practice.

You might even conclude that Obama is trying to interfere in internal Israeli politics and bring down a government. This is something post-colonial, post-multicultural Obama would never do with Iran, but with Israel, the US's longstanding ally, it's fine.

The World Tribune noted the following:

Since taking office, Obama has refused to approve any major Israeli requests for U.S. weapons platforms or advanced systems. Officials said this included proposed Israeli procurement of AH-64D Apache attack helicopters, refueling systems, advanced munitions and data on a stealth variant of the F-15E.

"All signs indicate that this will continue in 2010," a congressional source familiar with the Israeli military requests said. "This is really an embargo, but nobody talks about it publicly."

There are numerous other examples of Obama's open hostility towards Israel and her people. We may never know what drives President Obama's dislike of Israel. The truth is it doesn't matter. What we should be concerned with is whether or not President Obama is acting in the best interests of this country. Shunning one of our closest allies, and one of the few democracies in the middle east, does not seem to be in our national interest.

  1. I don't really know why he hates Israel, but the Bible says he is cursed because of it.
