THESE are the times that try men's souls.

As I sit here on the eve of the likely passage of Obamacare I find myself disheartened but no discouraged. We have been here before. The battle is all but lost but the war rages on. We must find the will to fight and the inspiration to win.

I have found encouragement and inspiration in the words of Thomas Paine and hope you may as well:

December 23, 1776


THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated. Britain, with an army to enforce her tyranny, has declared that she has a right (not only to TAX) but "to BIND us in ALL CASES WHATSOEVER" and if being bound in that manner, is not slavery, then is there not such a thing as slavery upon earth. Even the expression is impious; for so unlimited a power can belong only to God.

  1. Hmm, you are unhappy about health care, being a Canadian that seems silly to me.
    All so your current President has no more power then the last one.. and only a little bit more then the one before that.

    why is this new President a tyrant? or an idea he is putting forth akin(a kin?) to tyranny?

  3. I'm a Canadian, and this legislation is just part of the unfolding disaster occurring in the US as people vote themselves benefits with no concept of the consequences.

    America is significantly less free today, but a majority voted for Obama and the Democrat party. And the US is no long a republic, but simply is willing to accept whatever a transitory majority wants.

    The entitlement crash stalking the US has moved closer to coming true.

  4. There are so many provision in this monstrosity of a bill that are clearly unconstitutional. First and foremost, there is no authority for the government to seize control regardless of purpose of 1/6 of our economy. There is no provision in the Constitution that grants the authority to override your right of choice as it mandates you buy health insurance and fines you if you do not purchase a government approved plan. The bill itself violates another law which specifically forbids the Congress from passing legislation which "orders" the states to take a specific unfunded action. (unfunded mandates) which clearly violates the 9th and 10th Amendments (States Rights). This tyranny cannot be allowed to stand or we have exchanged the principal of representative government to that of a tyrannical government exercising its' will on the people.

  5. Question, what if the health care bill was being put forth by a Rep/Con does anyone think there would be a different overall opinion?
